About Us

In 1980 a group of women frustrated that writing conferences failed to meet the needs of romance writers banded together at the Southwest Writers Conference in Houston and founded Romance Writers of America©. Some of these women were from Houston, some from other places.

Following that conference, Rita Clay Estrada called the romance writers in the Houston area together. Houston was divided into four sections to be called chapters: Northwest, West, Bay Area and Southwest (now disbanded). Those areas became the names for Houston’s Romance Writers of America chapters. Through the years, Northwest Houston chapter members have personalized our chapter name to be the Lone Star Chapter.

Jennifer Bray-Weber

A proud native Texan, I grew up with wide open spaces and free reign to express myself. Always a “good girl”, I had a penchant for trouble. With that came plenty of entertaining tales and a brassy attitude. Now I’m a domestic goddess who lives with my loving husband, 2 beautiful daughters, and 2 neurotic cats. After earning degrees in Music & Video Business and Liberal Arts, I went back to school. Somewhere in my quest of a Masters in History, I took a creative writing course. It was such a thrill to write and share my stories with others. My professor suggested I pursue writing a novel. I don’t imagine he meant for me to quit school, but I did just that. I seriously began writing in January 2007, finishing my first manuscript 7 months later. I quickly discovered that I had much to learn about the craft. Joining RWA and NWH in January of 2008 changed my life. Currently, I’m a 2009 Golden Heart® finalist and, with support from my chapter and writing friends, making a mad dash toward publication.

Author of romantic suspense/thrillers and historicals

Texas girl by birth, child of the world by choice. While I was born in Texas, it was a momentary lay-over on our way back to Venezuela. My dad was in the oil industry and that allowed me to have my backyard in countries like Norway, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. I never lived in the U.S. until my mom dropped me off for college in New Orleans. Talk about culture shock!!!!! I earned my undergrad (French literature and Education) and grad (Early Childhood Development) degrees from Tulane University. As soon as I finished, it was back off to Malaysia to teach! After that, I was on my way to work in Beijing when my grandfather became ill and I returned to Texas. I met my husband on an airplane and the rest is history. We now have two kids and hop planes whenever we can! I write romantic thrillers/mysteries that seem to take place in exotic countries…imagine that! My first is located in the rain forest of Malaysia and is followed by an adventure set in Costa Rica complete with hidden treasure, drug cartels, and portable nuclear weapons. I wrote my first romance on hotel stationary in London when I was fifteen and have been dabbling ever since. I joined RWA two years ago and that’s when I decided to become serious about writing.

I grew up in Massachusetss and spent most of my life in New England. As an only child, I often had to entertain myself so I spent lots of time reading and writing and making up my own storiesalthough I never entertained the thought of being a 'REAL WRITER'.  Instead, I worked as a teacher for ten years and then managed a help desk for a bank. Tired of the cold winters the northeast is so famous for, my husband and I moved to Florida in 1999 and then to Texas in 2006.  We live in Kingwood with our three dogs and a pair of unruly parakeets and, when I'm not writing, I spend a couple of days a week working part-time at HEB. It was here in Texas that I finally dared to reach for my dream of becoming a writer. I attended my first writer's workshop and joined The Write Ingredients, a writing group based in The Woodlands.  Shortly after that, I attended my frist NWHRWA meeting. I loved the friendly, supportive people so I joined the groupone of my best decisions. I write mystery/sspense with a little romance thrown in to spice it all up and love every mintue I spend in front of my computer. (At least, when I'm writing.) Being published is my ultimate dream.

I live in Cypress Texas, with my husband, my soul mate. We have two grown sons and nine, that's right, nine grandchildren. My youngest son is currently serving in Afghanistan. I work part-time as the Business Manager of a church in Spring where my husband and I also run a youth activity program. I've only been writing for about 4 years so I am considered a newbie in the biz. I'm brimming with a burning passion to grow as a writer and the journey so far has exceeded all of my expectations. Though I'm working toward publication, I'll remain the color of joy if this is the destination!
